"The Stone House at Treetops" is a beautiful place for a family vacation or a romantic get-away. Three bedrooms, one on the first floor w/ a double bed w/ bathroom & shower. Two bedrooms on the second floor, one w/ queen bed, one w/ twin beds. A bathroom w/ tub is between them. New washer and dryer in the basement. If you're looking for a historic spot for a quiet retreat and a beach on the best part of Newfound Lake, THIS place is for you. Your children will love it also. It's a real gem!
Thomas A. Watson, the co-inventor of the telephone, made it a summer residence as did Milton C. Winternitz, a renowned dean of Yale Medical School. John Cheever, the gifted novelist and short story writer, was a frequent visitor. Home was designed by a prominent architect in the early twentieth century.
Access to beach on the lake, w/ spectacular views, a quaint boathouse and swim raft. Please note that the private beach is shared amongst the family cabins on our property. While some dates it may be fully private to your group, other times it may be shared with a few people using the other cabins, but it is not open to the general public.
*Please note: the railing on the staircase does have large spaces, so good to monitor if you have small children.

This was the perfect cozy getaway that we needed. the cottage is rustic and a bit like a step into the past which was refreshing. the lake was also refreshing! it was nice to have water access while at the same time enjoying the peaceful privacy of a cottage a bit farther away from the lake.

We just stayed for the night to attend a wedding, but it was very cozy and we wished we could have stayed longer.

Very cute place. It is on a dirt road which I don't remember if that was stated in description. It also has 2 full baths but the upstairs bath only has a tub, no shower. Very peaceful location and was just what we needed for 2 nights and 5 people. Comfortable beds. Living room furniture could be updated. Was a much better deal than staying in a hotel for 2 nights which would have required 3 rooms.

I am a frequent visitor to Newfound Lake and have always adored the area. Finding the stone house made me fall in love with the lake all over again! Having the lake access with the boat house, the beach area AND the dock was too perfect- I don’t have the words to describe how much it elevated our trip. The house itself was gorgeous and cozy with a space for everything! It was cool during the hottest parts of the day and cozy at night. The stargazing in the yard is to DIE FOR!! It is located on a steep hill with some of it being dirt road so keep that in mind but Ariel sent very clear instructions with pictures prior to check in that allowed us to find it easily and even let us check in early with no fee. During our stay they continued to check in, see if anything was needed and offered some recommendations on what to do in the area. Overall, my little Labor Day vacation was nothing short of perfect and my whole group agrees that we HAVE to return next summer and for a much longer time!

This historic home was perfect for the group of 4 of us (two couples). The house is a rustic family camp but very spacious, and well equipped with everything you need. The real treasure is the lake access-we brought our kayak and paddle board and there were plenty of boats/water toys in the boathouse. Ariel was easy to communicate with and it was very clean!

The house had so much charm and character. I loved the quiet location nestled on top of the hillside with the beautiful lake and boat house at the bottom of the street. So much great history surrounding the house which we loved.

We had a wonderful stay and Ariel was great to work with! Thank you!

Staying here was so peaceful. Ariel always answered me within an hour. She was very flexible with my check in timing. The house was absolutely beautiful and the views were amazing. I would definitely stay here again!!

Jana was very helpful and communicative! The property has a lot of history and we enjoyed learning a bit about it through the books in the house. The house was comfortable, but it did get a bit smokey when we had the fire going. It was a great spot for finding fall colors!

We had a great time in Jana’s cabin!

Absolutely beautiful! We loved staying in this historic and charming house. It was the perfect size for the four of us. The boathouse was an amazing amenity that is just down the road from the house. We spent all day there swimming and floating around. Had a few fires in the massive fireplace which was another great highlight. The house was a perfect basecamp for day trips into town, for hikes, and other adventures around Newfound Lake. It felt like the perfect stay!!! Hoping we can come back someday soon to experience it again.

This was our second stay at the Stone House this summer, and everything was wonderful. We couldn't give a higher recommendation for the house or host.

We had a lovely time in our stay. We appreciate the house historic significance and are grateful that we also got to make our own family memories to remember. The lake is so calm and beautiful. Newfound Lake is one of our favorites and caught plenty of fish, enjoyed kayaking and swimming. We rented kayaks and were delivered and picked up by a nice lady. Boathouse was just perfect spot. Lots of unique places to eat few minutes away. Hiking spots also close proximity. Jana was quick to respond with our questions. Overall great experience.

Our stay at the Stone House was wonderful. The house is grand in its simplicity, history, and preservation, spotlessly clean, comfortable and cozy. While just a short walk to Newfound Lake and its activities, the site is private, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful. It is also close to many great restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. Our host Jana could not have been nicer or more helpful, responding quickly to every message and graciously accommodating every request. My only regret is that we did not know of the Stone House earlier, and my hope is that we are able to stay here again many, many times.

Had a great three generation weekend near beautiful Newfound Lake. The house is a little rustic but very comfortable. We were initially worried about baby proof issues for our littlest but with a little care this worked out just fine. Would love to come again!

Lovely, quiet home and yard a short walk from Newfound Lake.

Jana’s home was exactly what we all needed! A lovely rustic chalet that felt just like home. Like other reviews said, the drive way is steep and grassy, but once we got use to it, it did not bother us. The home is quite large and has tons of space for hanging around the fire and enjoying a family dinner. The lake water was just the right temperature and crystal clear. We would definitely come stay here again.

The Stonehouse is a charming spot, plus it has access to a boathouse and deck right on the lake. The only problem we had this visit: the house was not as clean as on previous visits. But we loved our time there, despite the bad weather (rained almost every day!)
John J.
a beautiful, historic stone house perched in a peaceful meadow overlooking Newfound Lake. What more can I say! Large, working fireplace in spacious living room with cathedral ceilings, sunny bedrooms with wood panelled walls and wood floors. Lovely. Our host was gracious and easy tocommunicate with.

A lovely place with a remote New Hampshire hill feeling. Quiet and beautiful above the lake. We saw a deer, wild turkeys and a young bear in our 6 days there, also hummingbirds and other bird species. The house is a classic of its kind, rustic but functional and furnished with antiques. The road is steep and the driveway was barely OK for my low car. The access from the driveway to the front door is down a short but steep-ish grassy hill. But all is special here -- the quiet, the big night sky, the history of the place which you can read in the excellent book Treetops by Susan Cheever. The beach is rocky/pebbly but pleasant and the bathhouse makes spending time down by the lake very easy -- bring some water shoes. This is not your average place to stay! I mean that in a good way.

Jana was absolutely great and the Stone House was amazing! Lots of scenery and the history of the house is great to read about. Thanks Jana!

Quaint, rustic, and historic home in a gorgeous area. Not walking distance to the lake (and not a view of the lake) but quiet and secluded. Loved New Hampshire - convenient location to NewFound Lake, Bristol, and Plymouth!

Historic home, nice patio for dining. Host was great with communication.

Of the dozens of Airbnb’s I’ve stayed at, the Stone House was one of the most historically interesting and quality spots. The kitchen and bathroom amenities, furniture, books, and decorations made the place feel very homey. The property the house sits on is very peaceful. We only wish we had time to canoe on the lake! Very conveniently located near Rumney for climbing, with a cute farm stand and general store not to far away. Jana was a great host who sent house instructions and recommendations ahead of our stay, and responded quickly to questions. I would definitely recommend this stay and hope to return!

My family and I spent a week at the Stone House earlier this month. The house is an antique lover's treasure. Set high on a hill overlooking Newfound Lake, the home is quiet and very private. The history of the house is another fascinating aspect. According to a family memoir, which you may read during your visit, the original 50 acre property was purchased in the 1920's by Thomas Watson, who invented the telephone with Alexander Graham Bell. Watson's daughter and her husband built the Stone House. To this day, the property remains in the family. It is truly a unique and amazing property! I look forward to another visit to the Stone House.

We had a great week at the stone house in the treetops! Convenient location to enjoy rock climbing at Rumney and hiking at Mt Cardigan. The private beach and boathouse down on the lake was a perfect end to each day. We appreciated being able to sit on the deck and enjoy dinner watching the sunset.

Jana was very responsive and patient with our questions. This is a wonderful antique home in a secluded area, yet three minutes away from the lake. The house is spacious, with an open cathedral ceiling living room and separate feeling area upstairs, so when the kids have been tucked in and you close those solid wood doors it's very private too. The downstairs bedroom off the living room with the en-suite bathroom is a great feature too, and again, those impressive solid wood doors give good privacy if you want to turn in early. The kitchen is a country kitchen with the essentials. We prepared many meals and it worked out well. No dishwasher, but on vacation we have time to handwash. Speaking of which, washer, dryer in the basement work well. There is firewood and a working fire place to take the chill out of the air in the mornings. The patio is a great spot to relax. Breakfast and lunch al fresco! The boathouse and lake access are 1/2 mile steeply down the road which is dirt road, then paved. The driveway might be hard if you drive a sports car that is low to the ground, but it's in good shape. Bring your own beach towels! The boathouse is there for changing and storing your water things. There is an umbrella for shade, 3 lounge chairs and a canoe. We brought swim fins and had so much fun with those. There is a floating dock too. We did not have to share the boathouse, although even if you did, with other visitors, there is plenty of space. Parking right on the road by the boat house felt safe. We are already thinking about coming back next summer, because we loved it.

Had fabulous time. House spacious and beach area was lovely. Highly recommend Treetops

The house is very spacious to stay in. It does everything it is supposed to.
Brian O.
The perfect isolated cabin, aside a beautiful lake and a charming local community. Interior was breathtaking, and hiking was close by and gorgeous for oct weather. Would recommend for that private, cozy charm.
Samuel S.
Lovely, old fashioned get away. Close to many wonderfully hikes and a pristine lake. Jana was very responsive and made sure all asks were taken care of.

This is such a quiet, beautiful spot, with forest all around and a nice walk (up a steep hill) to the lake. The lake is beautiful and clear in this area and we loved canoeing and swimming and grilling in the evenings. The house is spacious and the high ceilings keep the downstairs cool. The patio was great. It's a rural country house with typical settling creaks and drafts, but gives the true New Hampshire family cottage experience. And wild blueberries if you time things right! :)
